Search by Slide Numbers Help
Use the slide numbers selector to accumulate slides in custom sets that are not wholly defined by strict "diagnosis" nor by "characteristics" affiliations; ideal for quizzes (in "FlashCard mode"), for presenting individual or small highly focused sets of examples, or to demonstrate concepts undescribed by either diagnosis or defined characteristics.
Sets of slides retrieved by diagnosis and/or selections fetched by the query can then be customized (expanded and/or contracted by particular slide numbers and number ranges), and diagnosis and/or selections currently used to incrementally build a query can be dismissed as needed if only custom slide number selections are desired.
Options: "Add to query": try in terms of slide numbers only or in combination with other diagnosis and characteristics query terms. "Add to results": add to query results from other query terms (ensures retrieval of existing slide numbers regardless of other query terms, but cancels out same "block from results" numbers). "Block from results": exclude from results (overlapping numbers override "add to query" numbers and cancel out same "add to results" numbers). "Base on notation": if you enter multiple searches in the search field separated by commas (example: "10-15, +16, -13--14"), select this option to set the operation per search (ie: "10-15" which lacks +/- prefixes means Add to query slides 10 through 15; "+16" means Add to results slide 16, and "-13--14" means Block from results slides 13 and 14, and note the double hyphens, --). The Viewer will automatically use Base on notation when it detects multiple searches separated by commas; otherwise, the presence of +/- prefixes (or lack of them) should set single number/number range search options automatically.
Behavioral priorities: "Add to results" and "block from results" numbers that are the same cancel each other out before they are applied to the same "add to query" numbers (for example: "+6" and "-5--7" cancel out each other's "6" before either overrides normal query parameter "6"; if "6" is not present in "add to query" after +6 cancels -6, slide 6 is not fetched at all).
Please note: In the event that you specify numbers and ranges of numbers that begin with the same number more than once for each option type, only the last specification with that number will be used. (For example, if you specify the following numbers: "25-26", and "25" for "Add to query", "4-5" and "4-7" for "Add to results", and "7-15" and "7-9" for "Block from results", only the bolded specified numbers will be queried; the others will be ignored in order to avoid confusion as to which numbers were queried.) Numbers and ranges specified that are not used are presented with a line through them; for example: 1-17.
